Gill’s Blog: My personal feedback on the eight Beachcomber hotels in Mauritius

Beachcomber was the very first hotel company to become established on the beautiful island of Mauritius and as a result, managed to secure some stunning beachfront locations. They now have eight wonderful resorts on the island, each with a unique feel and atmosphere.

I was extremely privileged to be invited to view them all and to be able to provide some first-hand feedback.

You know you are in a for a wonderful trip when it not only starts with an Emirates flight but when you're also given the opportunity to visit their in-flight bar on the impressive A380 Airbus.

Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury

We flew via Dubai and, on arrival in Mauritius, we were transferred to the Royal Palm, one of the Leading Hotels of the World, boasting its own helipad as well as 'the most prestigious address in Mauritius'. With only 69 suites, this would be high on my list for couples looking for the ultimate in luxury.

After breakfast and a site inspection, we walked into Grand Baie for a bit of shopping at the local market and a nose around. There are several bars and restaurants if seeking a little action to complement your relaxation.

Canonnier Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa

Cannonier Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa was our next stop for an inspection and a spot of lunch. This is a fabulous all-inclusive option for families with several different room and apartment types.

The unique spa with six massage rooms perched in the branches of a banyan tree is extraordinary! Guests staying here can also use the facilities at both Mauricia and our subsequent home for the night, Victoria.

Victoria Beachcomber Resort & Spa

The Victoria is one of Mauritius’ most popular family resorts with one of its most gorgeous beaches. It has incredibly spacious rooms along with 2-bedroom apartments available. An all-inclusive option is offered which is inter-changeable with both the Cannonier and Mauricia hotels.

Victoria For Two is a separate section of the resort for adults only, perfect for weddings, honeymoons and romance, featuring swim-up rooms, a new à la carte restaurant and the use of the main hotel's facilities.

We were fortunate to witness a couple getting married in the spectacular beach setting. Victoria also guarantees just one wedding per day and offer a variety of wedding packages.

Mauricia Beachcomber Resort & Spa

The following morning, we headed for Mauricia - a great option for young honeymooners or families - located in the heart of Grand Baie.

It has a splendid water sports centre, a separate diving centre and tennis courts, along with shopping centres and plentiful nightlife, including a casino, all within walking distance.

Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa

My very favourite hotel - Trou Aux Biches - was the scene for our next overnight stay. It has a lovely laidback vibe to it, with beautiful contemporary designed suites, in addition to a selection of 2 and 3 bed villas.

There is an impressive range of land and watersports available along with kids club and teen facilities up to the age of 17.

A salivating choice of restaurants include Thai, Italian and the Indian, at which we ate, which may well have been the best Indian food I have ever experienced.

Something a little different had been scheduled for the following day. The Casela Nature Park provided a fun day out where we enjoyed seeing zebras and ostrich on an African safari quad bike adventure. In addition to ziplining, hiking and the Bird Paradise, you can also walk with lions at Predator Kingdom!

Paradis Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa and Dinarobin Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa

Hotels 6 & 7 of our tour were the Paradis and Dinarobin which sit adjacent to each other with the iconic Le Morne mountain as a backdrop.

Paradis is ideal for active families with its expansive choice of watersports and its own 18-hole golf course. A first-rate choice of room types is available, including 2 bed family suites and with the additional complimentary use of the facilities at the Dinarobin next door, a comprehensive choice of eight restaurants will cover everybody's food preferences.

Dinarobin is a peaceful all-suite property set in lush tropical gardens. It has an adult-only area featuring their Zen Suites and its own Zen beach, which really says everything about this calming residence.

It's very much about switching off, wellbeing and tranquillity and the restaurants at its sister resort Paradis are also available to guests.

Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa

Last but by no means least we concluded with the Shandrani, set on a private peninsula lapped by the Blue Bay Marine Park, rich in sea life and with three different beaches.

A great value Serenity Plus all-inclusive is offered here which includes à la carte dining, imported wines, water-skiing, a 9-hole pitch and putt golf course and champagne!

The hotel also comprises a sailing school and a diving academy affiliated to the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI).

This was another fabulous Mauritius trip - eight beautiful hotels and all so very different.

Thank you to each hotel for making us so welcome and showing us around, and to our wonderful Beachcomber hosts for their kind hospitality.

Everybody should experience Mauritius and I can confidently guide you to whichever of these fabulous resorts is right for you.
